Lexmark ROCKS

First of all, I've been a Lexmark printer user for years and years, because of reliability and cost. Can't beat 'em. They do the job and in a very good way, so I keep going back for more. I buy the cheapies, tho, because I'm....frugal, yeah, that's it.

So Kristen buys a Z1300 as a quickie fix to her Mac printer problems in January for school. Then she goes and buys a decent all-in-one and HEY, can I have your printer??? Sure, so I move up from a 510 to a 1300. Wow, working great.

A couple of weeks ago Windows comes out with XP service pack 3 update. I always do the updates like a good doobie. Then the printer starts having issues...one after another...until it finally dies yesterday. I called tech support and they said oops, we'll have to send you another (you're still under warranty), just get back to us with the date you bought it and where (see why registration is important?).

I called back this morning and got a tech that was absolutely brilliant. I was sooooo impressed. He wasn't reading a script, he wasn't putting me on hold every 10 seconds to find out what to do next, and all in all was great. It seems XP service pack 3 totally messed up the software/drivers for Lexmark, and they're scrambling to correct it all. This guy used LogMeIn, tweaked my configuration settings and actually got the thing installed and fixed! It's working! It took about 45 minutes, and let me tell you, he knew what he was doing! Saved my bacon, since I need the printer for resumes, etc.!

All this for a $30 printer...can you believe it?

LEXMARK ROCKS!!!

Patience, Grasshopper?

That's one thing I really don't have...patience! I'd say I need to work on it, but what's wrong with wanting something right then and going for it? Decide already! Indecisiveness is the basis of patience, I think...

I went on an organizing binge tonight, after watching Spiderwick...wow, what a cool flick! Doesn't that little Freddie look just like what we have dreamed Pierce Brosnan looked like as a kid? Awwwww......

This diet is very difficult to do while weaning myself off anti-depressants, trying to keep the power bill down even though it's too smoky to see across the street in this heat, looking for a job, and doing all the stuff around the house I haven't been able to get to for sooooo long! I bottomed out yesterday: In order to lose the weight before the end of the year, my caloric intake is about 850 calories a day...ok, not too awful a problem EXCEPT put all those other issues into play and I'm a fuzzy mess! When I was pregnant with #1, I thought I was gaining weight too fast, but the doc disagreed. I changed doctors, and the next one rushed me to a nutritionist. She put me on 1,154 calories a day, and with jeweler's precision I followed that diet and STILL gained like a piglet! The last 2 weeks I blew it all off and ate my heart out, and didn't gain a pound...go figure. My metabolism defies description....throw a thyroid problem in, and well, you can see why I gained on Weight Watchers the first week (got a refund of the fee, too! LOL!).

Tomorrow, the sewing room! Think positive thoughts about a job!

Diet Power Update!

My goodness, these customer service people are incredible! They sent me a code right away to make the trial version last the whole 15 days after all!

And talk about forcing accountability on the food front....I was loathe to put something naughty on the list so I wouldn't see how bad I was in print!

Today I'm nutritionally in good shape, not hungry, and wishing I could just buy it today!

Diet Power 4.4....I'm going to tell my daughter about it as a program for parents to use who are on top of nutrition in the autism program at UNR....a lot of them feel it's a combined treatment, behavior and nutrition, so this would be WONDERFUL for them!

Thanks again, Shannon!

All at once!

"Life's Blender" is on 'crush' right now....the Fates turn it on and everything gets jumbled, crushed, whirled and just messy....

So, being without health insurance is spurring me on to break the Effexor XR habit of 15 years (that's right, I've been on it for 15 freakin' years, who thought THAT was ok?)...I'm weaning, but with everything else going on, probably it's just adding to my stress....

Diet Power 4.4 software recommended by Shannon (Hungry Zombie Couture) is awesome...keeps you nutritionally balanced, not just calorically. Ironically, my 15 day trial that I started last night timed out and expired this morning when I opened the program. See, the Blender is ON HIGH!

Smoke in the area from all the California fires has completely obscured the mountains surrounding Reno....I have the windows open because of power cooling costs, so it's a sniffly kind of day. We have so much wind on a regular basis up here in NW Reno, if I owned this home I'd be installing a wind generator PRONTO....of course, the city or neighborhood association probably won't like that idea!

I am taking the scooter to store for a couple of things....but not yet, I'm waiting to see if the blender may begin whirling before I leave (don't want an issue on the trip!)

Today's list includes taking stock of the summer wardrobe (I use the phrase facitiously) and then into the sewing room for some making some muslins.....I need to upgrade the working look in case (and when?) I get a job....

Think positive!

I was on a BREAK Rachel, a BREAK!

Too much going on most days to even thing of a blog...reading other's posts (like voyeurism) is too time-consuming, anyway.

So much has happened, let's see:

Sisters and 'neice' came to visit for 5 days in February...
The staff at the office became more toxic....
My thyroid is FINALLY in sync with the world....
Lost 15 lbs. and still kind of trying (not with Jillian, though)....
Liz has thyroid problems but getting her treatment in BFE was wrenching....
Kristen finished her 18 unit semester with flying colors and has 4 more units until her psych degree (and has a summer job that is draining!)...
The staff at the office became downright deathly poisonous....
Angel and Bear BOTH left us within 2 months of each other....
Jax is our new dog....what a doll....
The stress from the office staff was making me DIE a bit every day....
Summer is now here....
Mutual agreement to leave the job on 6/12/08...I need to find another job STAT!!!
Two people I care about were diagnosed with diabetes....
I will miss all my clients and my boss...I hope they miss me!!
Weaning myself off the antidepressant due to no insurance to pay for the $250 a month tab....(actually, I'm feeling BETTER when I don't take it)....

Slippin' 'n Slidin'

We went to the store and decided to go to the movies ('27 Dresses', what else?). When we got out it was 6:20. We meandered home since it was 29 and looked like things were starting to ice over on the roads. No big deal, though. I thought.

As we were coming UP the hill to the turn to our housing neighborhood, I lost control of the car. We just slipped and slid UP the hill. It was wierd. Another car was coming down the other side of the road so I just turned the wheel like a good doobie, and we headed right toward a ditch on our side of the road. I didn't want to slide head first into the steep little ditch, so I turned the wheel to slide into the curb sideways toward the left and told Kristen to hold on. We were SLIGHTLY headed level at this point. We slid into the curb and stopped. Oops, I think we knocked over the street sign. I put it into drive, slowly made the u-turn back up the hill, and crawled home. Put it in 4wd. The only thing was the steering wheel now pointed to the right 45 degrees instead of level. But the turns were made without any issues, and it didn't hitch or anything as we drove straight into the garage. It does, however, look like my left wheel is angled funny. I called the office manager to let her know that if it's more than an alignment problem I may have to stop to get it fixed in the morning. Otherwise, I could do it tomorrow night (where I bought the tires gives you re-alignments for free, I hope this counts as a freebie!). Kristen has an 8am class, too. I may have her stop at the place after class, if we can drive it ok in the morning.

Day of Rest?

It seems that while I'm at the office all I can think about is being at home and 'doing'...sewing, quilting, fixing, exercising, etc. When I'm at home, all I can motivate myself to do sometimes is use the laptop in the living room. I joined 'Jillian' of Biggest Loser fame online to start losing weight, yesterday was my first day. I didn't exercise, and I blew the diet while reading late last night. I should be up in my sewing room making that Going Away present for Holly, our law clerk (she wanted a 'Girlie' apron like the ones I made for Christmas presents). Here I sit, creating a blog while the snow gently falls outside. How darn cozy can this get???
